Where does castor oil come from?

The castor plant is native to India and parts of East Africa. It now grows worldwide in tropical and subtropical regions. From the seeds of this plant, the well-known castor oil is extracted by cold pressing. Besides the classic variant, there is also a special, more powerful form: Jamaican black castor oil.

What is Jamaican black castor oil?

Jamaican black castor oil (JBCO) is produced in a traditional way, where the seeds are first roasted before being pressed. This process gives the oil its characteristic dark colour and increases the concentration of nutrients. This makes this variant of black castor oil especially popular for intensive hair and scalp care. Especially people with curly, dry or damaged hair swear by it.

The benefits of castor oil

  • Skin hydration: Castor oil is rich in ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid that penetrates deep into the skin and provides long-term hydration. This makes it ideal for dry or sensitive skin.
  • Soothing and purifying: Its antibacterial properties can help reduce impurities, such as acne or inflammation.
  • Healthier hair growth: Castor oil stimulates blood flow to the scalp and nourishes the hair follicles. As a result, it can contribute to thicker, stronger and shinier hair.
  • Repairing damaged hair: Its nourishing properties make hair less brittle, especially when using black castor oil or Jamaican black castor oil.
  • Eyelashes and eyebrows: With regular use, eyelashes and eyebrows can become fuller and stronger.
  • Nail care: Castor oil nourishes and strengthens brittle nails and softens cuticles.
