The different forms of eczema

Eczema comes in different forms, each with its own characteristics:

  • Atopic eczema: Also known as constitutional eczema, often hereditary.
  • Seborrheic eczema: Common on the scalp and face.
  • Contact eczema: Comes from contact with irritants or allergic reactions.
  • Dyshidrotic eczema: Characterised by small, itchy vesicles on hands and feet.

Each form requires a specific approach. For example, seborrhoeic eczema on the scalp requires different treatment than eczema on the hands. It is important to get the right diagnosis for effective treatment.

Treatment of eczema

The treatment of eczema is tailor-made. It is often started with basic care:

  • Moisturising creams to keep the skin supple and oily
  • Avoidance of irritants
  • Use of mild soap and lukewarm water

For more severe cases, special eczema ointments and eczema creams are available, often with corticosteroids. For persistent eczema, the doctor may also prescribe other medication. The aim is always to relieve symptoms and prevent new outbreaks.
